Madison and Chris’ winter engagement session at Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve in Southfield, Michigan, brought a completely different kind of beauty to their engagement photos. With fresh snow covering the landscape, the preserve became a quiet, natural backdrop for photographs that feel intimate, playful, and full of atmosphere. And, naturally, a winter session wouldn’t be complete without a playful snowball fight, one that gave us the chance to capture their personalities and connection in a way that felt completely natural to them.

The soft winter light, snow-covered woods, and surrounding landscape created plenty of opportunities to make the environment part of their images rather than simply using it as a backdrop.
